StopWatch

Introduction

Senior thesis project synthesizing knowledge of the product design/design thinking process. This section showcases the final mobile and web designs, information hierarchy, UX flows, journey maps, as well as our low-fidelity designs.

StopWatch, a non-profit initiative, introduces an innovative crowdsourcing data collection tool designed to live stream police interactions to the cloud through cutting-edge smart dashcam technology. Comprising a comprehensive system that includes a smart dash camera, a user-friendly smartphone app, and a dedicated website, StopWatch aims to redefine transparency in law enforcement encounters.

At the core of this initiative is a hard-wired dashcam capturing continuous footage of the driver, offering the flexibility to stream directly to platforms like YouTube, other social media channels, or the StopWatch website. Activating live streaming during a police stop can be initiated either by voice command, through the app, or with a simple button press. Notably, officers approaching the vehicle receive instant notification that live streaming is underway, serving as a deterrent against misconduct or dishonesty.

Value proposition

This real-time streaming feature ensures that web viewers can witness the interaction as it unfolds, providing an additional layer of accountability. Post-stop, drivers have the opportunity to contribute context-specific data about the encounter. On the StopWatch website, users can manage their streams, including posting, deleting, commenting, and forwarding footage to relevant parties.

In alignment with its broader mission, StopWatch is committed to making camera technology accessible to all, particularly those in overpoliced communities. As part of this effort, StopWatch seeks to provide free camera technology to members of communities disproportionately affected by law enforcement activities, furthering the organization's commitment to transparency and accountability.
